For tourists and foreigners, it is always recommended to call 112, as language support is available in several languages (English, German, French… in addition to Spanish and Catalan). The dispatcher will transfer your call to the appropriate service based on the situation.
All these emergency numbers (112, 061, 080, 091, 092, 062, 085, 900 202 202 …)
do NOT require any country code.

They work from all mobile networks, even when roaming.

The call is routed directly to Spanish dispatch centers.

Even if you have a SIM card from another European country → you can dial the number directly.

112 works even without a PIN or credit.

All these special lines are free of charge; only 902 numbers may be billed as international calls from a foreign mobile operator → therefore it is better to use 112 or local police.

🏥 Main Public Hospitals in Mallorca

​

  • Hospital Universitario Son Espases (Palma) - main, largest, tertiary care.
     

  • Hospital Universitario Son Llàtzer (Palma) - large modern hospital.
     

  • Hospital de Manacor (Manacor, east of the island).
     

  • Hospital Comarcal d’Inca (Inca, north of the island).
     

These hospitals fully accept EHIC (European Health Insurance Card)
“If you are tourists from the EU, Switzerland, the UK, or EEA countries (Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein) and have a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), you are entitled in Mallorca (within Spain) to necessary treatment free of charge or under the same conditions as local residents.”

You can also visit some local health centers, but only during their working hours. They are located across the island (e.g., Alcúdia, Pollença, Can Picafort, Sóller, Valldemossa, Andratx, Palmanova, Santa Ponça, Palma, Cala Millor, Cala d’Or, Campos, Santanyí). Urgent care outside working hours is always handled in the public hospitals listed above.

How it works in Mallorca with standard EU insurance (EHIC):

​

Covered:

  • Acute treatment for injuries and sudden illnesses

  • Necessary treatment during your stay to allow you to return home as planned

  • Prescriptions – partially paid by patient (like Spaniards, usually 40–60% of cost)
     

Not covered:

  • Private hospitals and private doctors (payment required unless you have travel/commercial insurance)

  • Planned care unrelated to acute situations

  • Repatriation (transport back to your home country)
     

Tourists should always show their passport/ID + EHIC card at registration.
Without the card (or if visiting a private clinic) you must pay for the treatment.

British citizens still have the same entitlement to care as EU citizens, provided they present a valid EHIC or the new GHIC.
